Texturize!
HOW A little bit of layering and the addition of some texture can do a lot for a simple poster. And it’s easy! Really! Try using the “Multiply” blending option in PS to make the texture more subtle. (This is a great effect and can be found right under the top of the Layers panel, next to Opacity. The default is “Normal.”) Or simply use the original texture as a...

New (Offical) Guidelines for Posters
From the VSA “Advertising in residence halls: Unfortunately, ResLife has been voicing some concerns about improper dorm advertizing. I wanted to articulate their policy in writing so that we can abide by their guidelines and not lose the privilege of this great resource. According to local fire safety protocols, which can be enforced by fine, all paper flyers in dorms should technically be...

If you still need a ticket you can participate in one of our two giveaways by doing the following: 1. VICE HUNT. Remember the bear roaming campus a few weeks ago? Well, he got a bit upset with us. See, we sort of promised him the possibility of lady bears on Vassar’s campus as...

Also, if the hand tool is active and you hold down the Ctrl key, you can zoom in without changing to the zoom tool. Likewise, if you hold down the Alt key, you can zoom out without changing tools. Z (Zoom Tool) — This command just brings up the zoom tool, which allows...

F (Cycle Screen Modes) — Switch between normal screen, full screen with task bar without title bar, and full screen with black background. Dafont.com →
This is my personal favorite free font website. Everybody loves Helvetica, but sometimes you just gotta mix things up a bit. Besides, I personally could go through any sans-serif section for a few hours… Keep in mind that you can download and install these to the Media Cloister computers, but just remember which computer you were using!

Good site for free PS brushes →
Brushes are great. You can use them to add texture to an image, make it look distressed, or simply just use a cool brush for a graphic effect. This website isn’t obviously the only one to offer tons of free brushes, but the quality is pretty darn good for being free.

Good site for free vectors →
Vectors are a really great tool if you don’t want to spend hours making your own graphics. (And they make a simple poster look really snappy.) Most of the files are formatted for Illustrator, but no worries! They can be easily used in Photoshop as well.
